Glentauchers 2009

Small revolution at Asta Morris, in fact, finished the little animals on the labels and place to the Belgian monuments! For this new collection it seems to be Brussels which is put in the spotlight, soon versions with Liège and its Perron!

With this one this evening, it is a nice little boy who pisses on the label … the well named Manneken-Pis of Brussels, emblematic figure of Belgium.

Not knowing Glentouchers at all, a quick search on wikipedia will teach me a little more about these guys, here is basically what it says.

The distillery was founded in 1897 in Banffshire in Scotland, specifically in the city of Keith.

They produce whisky mainly for the blend (Ballantine’s), but it’s nevertheless possible to find some single malt among independent bottlers such as Duncan Taylor, Gordon & McPhail and Asta Morris of course …

Closed several times during its existence, Glentouchers has been part of the Pernod Ricard group since 2005.

Titling 51.5%, this single mat will have aged 10 years, part of it in a Sherry barrel, which will give it this beautiful color …

Color

Light amber… see photos 🙂

Nose

Directly, the beautiful cereal with a tip toffee … it’s pretty sweet, the 51.5% are not aggressive.

A rich side is worth noting, a kind of fat honey with stewed fruit and dark chocolate.

In fact, it’s super « gourmand » as Bert would say. (#Privatejokeinside)

Sherry does not crush everything, but there are traces of vanilla, dried fruit, nutmeg and in the background, behind all that we find a beautiful orange peel, lemon and apple.

Pwa, there’s lot of writing on it … it’s very complex and very well done!

Palate

The mouth is ultra creamy and soft … the whisky is literally chewed like a big soft caramel, pwa it’s good!

There are cooked fruits, malt, milk chocolate, spices such as nutmeg, pepper, vanilla.

The cooked apple, the citrus emerge from all this to bring lightness and acidity …

No impression of heaviness or suffocation, this juice is really very well balanced and sherry does not take all the space.

The grapes, the prunes come to finish this superb whisky, no aggression and especially a length of sick ….

Price

70€

Conclusion

It’s really a big pleasure whisky that can really suit novices (me) as confirmed amateurs … congrats Bert !

Miam miam !

Score

89/100
