{"id":9092,"date":"2019-12-07T21:30:58","date_gmt":"2019-12-07T20:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/?p=9092"},"modified":"2019-12-07T21:30:59","modified_gmt":"2019-12-07T20:30:59","slug":"bally-18-yo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/index.php\/2019\/12\/07\/bally-18-yo\/","title":{"rendered":"Bally 18 yo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">New Martinique selection for <strong>Hubert Corman<\/strong>, this time it&rsquo;s on <strong>Bally<\/strong>&lsquo;s side that we&rsquo;re going for a walk &#8230; and not just any because of his <strong>18 years<\/strong> on tap, this selection is actually the oldest Bally never bottled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chosen from 3 samples proposed by <strong>Marc Sassier<\/strong> to<strong> <\/strong>Hubert, following several criteria previously discussed, I had the huge chance to taste them during the selection in Battice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naively, I like to think that I had my say in this bottling, even if obviously I am only a very small link in the whole story &#8230; but hey, the moment was really owl !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this selection, the 3 proposed samples were all of a very good quality and we were entitled to vintages following <strong>2000-2006-2008<\/strong> &#8230; All 3 of excellent quality by the way &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"954\" height=\"714\" src=\"http:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20190701_112533565-1.jpg\" alt=\"S\u00e9lection de 3 J.Bally\" class=\"wp-image-9070\" srcset=\"https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20190701_112533565-1.jpg 954w, https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20190701_112533565-1-595x445.jpg 595w, https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20190701_112533565-1-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20190701_112533565-1-160x120.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 954px) 100vw, 954px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the little story, arrived in 2000, our first impression to both of them was a frank and academic \u00a0\u00bb <em>Bordel de putain de merde, c&rsquo;est bon \u00e7a !<\/em> \u00a0\u00bb &#8230; So, a great technical retour \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the <strong>Trois Rivi\u00e8res 2005<\/strong>, Hubert wanted to customize the label and the box &#8230; and rather than indicate the vintage, he decided to display the age of this venerable Bally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those who are keen on <strong>transparency<\/strong>, all you need to know and even more is on the box. A long year later, it is bottled after a good cure aeration &#8230; <strong>408 <\/strong>bottles of 70cl will have been produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Color<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old <strong>mahogany<\/strong>, very dark and oily&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first nose reveals a surprisingly <strong>fruity <\/strong>rum on citrus fruits, blood orange, <strong>apricot <\/strong>jam and even some <strong>floral <\/strong>notes. I say surprisingly because after 18 years in his drum, we expect more tertiary notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown <strong>tobacco<\/strong>, ash wood, <strong>encaustic<\/strong>, camphor, liquorice come back then put things in logic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wood is frighteningly <strong>generous<\/strong>, it offers beautiful chocolate, dried fruits, <strong>vanilla <\/strong>traces, a slight side of gunpowder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The almost 57% are pretty well <strong>integrated <\/strong>and don&rsquo;t attack this warm spirits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Palate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The palate is <strong>warm<\/strong>, generous, <strong>creamy <\/strong>and the traces of the cask are more present here than the nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The woody is still as <strong>chocolatey<\/strong>, <strong>noble <\/strong>and by no means too astringent &#8230; it gives this rum a very <strong>generous <\/strong>side actually and seems very controlled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The year of aeration will certainly have played a role in this relative <strong>accessibility<\/strong>. Traces of dried fruit and <strong>licorice <\/strong>finish with tertiary aromas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fruits are able to emerge in all this with a nice big jam of <strong>apricots<\/strong>, citrus fruits and more spicy traces like <strong>cinnamon <\/strong>and nutmeg among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The length is very strong on dark <strong>chocolate <\/strong>powder and spices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Price<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">149 \u20ac<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An 18-year-old Martinique farm rum is always something <strong>rare <\/strong>and <strong>exceptional <\/strong>to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, this <strong>Bally 18 years<\/strong> old has really been shaped by the barrel of Cognac, offering this spirits a beautiful complexity and above all an incredible delicacy &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Far from being an undrinkable woody juice, this Bally managed to be affordable from both a tasting and financial point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, 149 \u20ac for a rum AOC farm of 18 years, it is indeed rare enough to emphasize it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Score<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">90\/100<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Martinique selection for Hubert Corman, this time it&rsquo;s on Bally&lsquo;s side that we&rsquo;re going for a walk &#8230; and not just any because of his 18 years on tap, this selection is actually the oldest Bally never bottled.
