{"id":6336,"date":"2019-04-17T07:26:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T05:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/?p=6336"},"modified":"2019-04-17T07:43:31","modified_gmt":"2019-04-17T05:43:31","slug":"caroni-ceremony-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/index.php\/2019\/04\/17\/caroni-ceremony-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Caroni Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">During my discussion with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Luca  (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\" href=\"http:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/index.php\/en\/2018\/11\/17\/caroni-employees-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Luca <\/a>last year, he mentioned a great Caroni Ceremony where he would make the next selections with the passionate of the deceased  distillery of Trinidad &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He absolutely wanted to gather around the last casks these <strong>enthusiasts<\/strong> who also make Caroni as Caroni. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the program then, tasting the whole <strong> 140 <\/strong>barrels remaining  of Heavy Rum Caroni. 140 barrels in aging 100% tropical divided into 2 groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The full Trinidad that were stored at Angostura (TDL) <\/li><li>Guyana stock coming from Demerara Distillers (DDL)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything has been repatriated recently in Europe to stop aging after selection. These will then be placed in stainless steel vats or dame jeanne to keep the essence of Caroni bottled by Velier, 100% tropical so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, there will be 139 because one apparently broke &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately after the official invitation received, contacts are made with 3-4 other geeks of Caroni to plan the route &#8230; Because yes, Cognac when we live in Belgium, it&rsquo;s 8 hours driving, so it&rsquo;s better to do it with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I will make a small stop in Paris to go and get two old acquaintances &#8230; each participant taking a nice bottle to share with the rest of the team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Result, sleep at 4 o&rsquo;clock in the morning after beautiful passionate discussions around beautiful eaux de vie&#8230; Yes, 140 barrels, it&rsquo;s raw if we must all taste<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our selection from TDL&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first selection consists in sweeping all the barrels that have fully aged in Trinidad and select those that stand out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this, the 8 tasting gangs receive 1 \/ 8em of the totality of this stock in samples and will put aside those which seem to be above. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, they themselves are tasted by another tasting gang to validate or not the choices. From this second passage, only <strong>12 <\/strong>barrels are selected for future single cask. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rest will be assembled to feed the next 14 Employees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On our side, we selected 3 barrels of 1996 with <strong>Nico<\/strong>, <strong>Jonathan <\/strong>and his companion <strong>Pauline<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These three selections are validated by the tasting gang of <strong>Luca <\/strong>who will finally have retained only <strong>1<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If ever, this is the claims office for future buyers of this single cask who would be disappointed with the <strong>3775 <\/strong>drum of <strong>1996<\/strong> \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, we have to validate the selections of tasting Gang 1, and we retained only <strong>2 barrels of the 2000 vintage<\/strong> out of the 3 that Luca had proposed to us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes,  it&rsquo;s relatively crazy to say that we have discarded a selection of <strong>Luca Gargano<\/strong> \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concerning \u00ab\u00a0our\u00a0\u00bb cask, notes of fruits, honey, wood, caramel for a generous and well balanced spirit convinced us !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our selection from DDL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After this first big pass, little break to resume forces and then we will take care of stock that was stored at DDL. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are often sweeter and generous than their \u00ab\u00a0brothers\u00a0\u00bb from Trinidad stock&#8230; why? No damn idea but it is often the case. Indeed when they arrived at Angostura, all the marks were redone with a big TDL on the top. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DDL have not touched these Caroni, so we have the happiness to find the famous <strong>HTR <\/strong>or <strong>BLENDED <\/strong>on a white background, typical of Caroni <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We inherited of a selection of \u00ab\u00a0blended rums\u00a0\u00bb from the 1996 vintage again.
