So ok\u2026 but what’s the fu*** with Caroni ??<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Caroni, in addition to being a distillery, was above all a huge refeniry that had belonged to different groups to finish property of the state of Trinidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The molasses, resulting from the transformation of cane into sugar, were distilled directly on place. As it was done wherever there was this kind of industry in the Caribbean among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem is that this refenery was not really profitable, and therefore the state of Trinidad decided in 2003 to close the whole …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, no more sugar, no more molasses, no more rum …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This is what directly interests us, but we must not forget that on the spot it was more seen as a social bloodbath than anything else. Lot of people were without work after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nCaroni rums were almost never bottled in their raw form. They were used almost only for blends including the famous Navy Rum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So from a rum’s point of view, it didn’t affect many people at Trinidad at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2003, everything is closed and all the remainings barrels are sold as auction. Luca Gargano from Velier, John Barrett from Bristol and Angostura’s rum are interrested and caught all this treasure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nSince the distillery was destroyed and only a few remains remain. The barrels purchased are therefore the last testimonies of this distillery<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is for the facts\u2026 I’ve made it very simple, the true is more complex I think but It should be ok like this \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But why this old distillery make so much noise ?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The first thing that makes rum drinkers speak is, of course, the taste of the rum !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with this one, there is a lot of tastes \ud83d\ude42 oil, tar, diesel on some vintage…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aaargh, it sticks !!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

No, you have to go further because caroni rums have more and more to offer you. You can detect fruits, burnt caramel, brown sugar, floral aromas etc etc<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Never forget the first function of this rum: beeing a part of a blend. This rum could completly change the profile of the blend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So yes, a lot of people speak about this rum… Some of them because they doesn’t understand why others likes it and the aficionados who try to explain why it’s so waw \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if it was only that, it won’t make as much wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second thing that fascinates so much is the frenzy around the various traffic jams that come out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed we are talking about a distillery closed and destroyed. So with every bottle sold, it’s a chance less of having one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nEveryone is talking more and more about these \u00ab\u00a0so special and rare\u00a0\u00bb rums and so many rum lovers are interested …. but not only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, some little ‘genius’ who have sniffed the good vein, think that if people like and the distillery is closed,\u00a0 making stock to resell much more expensive when the time comes should be a good opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When time comes for a sale of a velier on a single site, it can last only 20 minutes for 230 bottles … You have to be on the good place on the right moment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An really rare single cask for Belgium<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\nBeside that, other bottlers of course offer their versions and it is also the \u00ab\u00a0war\u00a0\u00bb to get them, even if it is easier than with Velier for the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThis less popular aspect comes from the fact that only velier and some old bristol propose caroni aged 100% in the tropics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIt doesn’t mean better, just different.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nAt present, the oldest caroni available dates from 1994 for wine. For what it is European stocks, some 1993 come out from time to time but this is more often 1998.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nSo that’s just where the Buzz Caroni comes from … the fact that it’s good, on the brink of extinction and unfortunately subject to good inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nFor those who do not know yet, if I can give you any advice, it would be to try to taste these caroni via tasting evenings, via the purchase of sample or at your cellar.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prices unfortunately only increase, it becomes difficult to buy blind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
