The long tasting that followed will highlight a barrel in particular, a 2009 Long Pond<\/strong> barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Distilled in 2009 <\/strong>at Long Pond therefore, in Jamaica, this rum will have aged 9 years<\/strong> on the island and 1 last year<\/strong> in Cognac in a cask from the house of Ferrand. The mark of the latter is VRW and it titles a big 61%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n VRW <\/strong>is the mark used to reference distilled rums as it was done at the Vale Royal distillery, which closed in 1959. It simply means \u00ab\u00a0Vale Royal Wedderburn<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is therefore a \u00ab\u00a0Wedderburn\u00a0\u00bb style, which indicates an ester rate between 200 and 300 gr \/ hlpa. We are on a style called \u00ab\u00a0light\u00a0\u00bb .. for a Jamaican rum of course \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last important information, the dosage is 0 on this single cask \u2026 no added sugar<\/strong> whatsoever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Greedy<\/strong> and warm <\/strong>\u2026 what is directly impressive is limiting the absence of alcohol for a spirit grading 61.4%! It’s really amazing and suddenly, a nice surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We find beautiful buttery<\/strong>, brioche<\/strong>, pastry notes with frangipane<\/strong>, almond <\/strong>paste, vanilla, some flowers<\/strong> and some more woody <\/strong>and spicy notes including mocha <\/strong>and milk chocolate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The fruits are of course also part with the banana<\/strong>, the mango<\/strong> and the well ripe orchard fruits. Some more typical notes of Jamaica as a light solvent<\/strong> should also be noted as well as a touch of rum candies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But this nose is above all something really balanced<\/strong>, greedy or nothing seems to exceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A very pleasant nose would be I would like to say, which is not far from the 2003 Clarendon<\/strong> in fact, but with more vigor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The entry on the palate is more lively<\/strong>, fresh and really delicious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The fruits <\/strong>take up a large part of the place, all coated with a fine caramel <\/strong>and supported by a more woody <\/strong>and cocoa<\/strong> presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We feel more the 61.4% but without it being too much, precisely this is what makes the charm of this undenatured selection except for a passage in cognac <\/strong>barrels which will probably have helped to slightly round off the angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/leblogaroger.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_4065.jpg\")
