It is May 1994, Ayrton and Roland have just tragically died in Imola but that doesn&rsquo;t stop the activity at Enmore\u2026 as well as its old wooden still: \u00ab\u00a0Versailles\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>25 <\/strong>years later, the German bottler <strong>Rum Artesanal<\/strong> offers for sale a nice big \u00ab\u00a0Dark Demerara Rum\u00a0\u00bb distilled this disastrous month. Titling <strong>51.4%<\/strong>, this one lets us predict a good moment I hope!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First info, we are speaking about the <strong>VSG <\/strong>mark \u2026 but according to other sources it would be the <strong>REV <\/strong>mark. So here we are again into the hell of marks, who is right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well everyone in fact, because you should know that the VSG mark was the official one practiced at <strong>Versailles <\/strong>and then at <strong>Enmore <\/strong>when they distilled rums via the still from this old plantation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The REV marks more than likely comes from the broker, and specifically <strong>Cadenhead<\/strong>. It would simply mean <strong>R<\/strong>um <strong>E<\/strong>nmore <strong>V<\/strong>ersailles \u2026 well, something not too complicated to understand for once, everything seems to be coherent \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the <strong>Versailles <\/strong>distillery, it was a plantation located along the Demerara river which stopped its activities around <strong>1968<\/strong>. This nose only seems to be greed and friendship \u2026 the 54.1% are completely melted together, it&rsquo;s very creamy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The black fruits like <strong>blackcurrant <\/strong>or <strong>blackberry<\/strong> then appear with a beautiful <strong>lemon <\/strong>which brings a nice freshness to the whole. And this despite the imposing ladle of <strong>molasses <\/strong>which seems to have been lovingly placed in the barrel at one time or the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The large English marmalade, the <strong>ripe banana<\/strong> and a hint of <strong>cola <\/strong>finish this very concentrated nose, but not at all disgusting as some old dark demerara can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-color\">Palate<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Haaaa it&rsquo;s bold, it&rsquo;s well <strong>roasted<\/strong>, it sticks to the teeth, it lines the palate \u2026 no doubt, it&rsquo;s a good big demerara \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>chocolate <\/strong>powder comes directly to the fore as well as a beautiful <strong>licorice <\/strong>and quite a few dried fruits including the slightly bitter <strong>nut<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The finish is rather sustained with <strong>woody <\/strong>notes, <strong>coca <\/strong>quid and a not unpleasant bitterness. It&rsquo;s still one of those rums that literally chews for long minutes \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The alcohol is really very sweet, we are on an old Demerara who has had all the time to age and to settle down in barrels for almost 26 years anyway \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-color\">Price<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">109\u20ac (for 50 cl)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-color\">Conclusion<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pwwaaaa, what a story this old Versailles \u2026 we are clearly immersed in the world of old Demerara, but without it turning on  horrible woods juice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very good selection, a really top barrel \u2026 I&rsquo;m really angry to have miss this bottle ! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-color\">Score<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">92\/100<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone, I propose you a new journey back in time, towards English Guyana and more particularly the Enmore distillery!
